MGA Research Corporation offers industry-leading rollover and sensor development testing services. Our extensive proving grounds and specialized facilities support automakers and suppliers in advancing vehicle safety across a wide range of scenarios.

Understanding Automotive Rollover Sensors and Vehicle Safety Systems

Rollover sensors are critical components in modern vehicle safety systems. They are designed to detect imminent rollover events and trigger protective measures such as airbag deployment. These sensors work in conjunction with electronic stability control (ESC) and other safety devices to help reduce fatalities and injuries.

Advanced sensor systems enable rapid detection and response, integrating with ESC and airbag systems to minimize injury risk. Real-world data shows that effective rollover detection can significantly reduce fatalities in rollover crashes.

Supporting OEM Development and Vehicle Safety Integration

MGA supports OEMs in airbag algorithm refinement by collecting and analyzing sensor data, determining deployment thresholds, and assisting with control unit integration and multi-sensor fusion. Our team also examines how rollover sensors interact with ESC systems, focusing on actuator response and system-level safety device performance.

For heavy-duty and commercial vehicles, MGA offers specialized testing to address industry-specific requirements and challenges, helping manufacturers meet the highest safety standards.

Rollover Sensor Testing Capabilities

MGA provides a comprehensive suite of testing services for rollover sensor development. Static abuse testing includes impact simulations using baseballs, golf balls, and basketballs, as well as power tool vibration near sensors, tire burst simulations, and environmental stress and durability testing. These tests are designed to assess sensor performance under a variety of real-world abuse scenarios.

Dynamic testing is conducted on our 400-acre proving grounds, which feature more than 50 different road surfaces. This environment allows for the simulation of real-world driving scenarios, speed variations, and rollover conditions. Specialized test modes include soil, curb, corkscrew ramp, and ditch rollovers with adjustable wall angles, as well as robotic steer-induced rollover and testing to SAE J2114 and FMVSS 208 Dolly Rollover standards.

Custom Testing Solutions for Automotive Rollover Sensors

Recognizing that every customer’s needs are unique, MGA develops tailored test programs to assess sensor placement and performance in customer-specific scenarios. Custom impact forms and real-world event simulations are designed to provide comprehensive evaluation. High-speed data acquisition systems enable precise roll angle measurement and sensor response characterization, supporting robust algorithm development.

The MGA Advantage in Rollover Sensor Testing

MGA is the only independent provider in the United States with a complete rollover test matrix capability. Proprietary launchers and equipment, including an adjustable ditch rollover wall and a secluded four-acre skid pad, set MGA apart in the industry. Decades of experience, continuous innovation in test methods, and close collaboration with leading OEMs demonstrate MGA’s commitment to advancing vehicle safety.
