Pedestrian Protection is a worldwide safety issue that continues to evolve and develop with each passing year. The current test protocol is used to evaluate the vehicle front exterior for countermeasure designs that are intended to reduce a variety of pedestrian injuries.
Over the past decade, MGA has supported this effort through the development of an innovative equipment system. The complete package consists of a Nitrogen-based propulsion system with an easy-to-use touch-screen interface, multi-axis test frame, several state-of-the-art impactors for the head, lower leg, and upper leg, calibration stations, and various data acquisition / pyrotechnic activation / data processing options. Training is also offered from experienced MGA test personnel who perform Pedestrian Protection testing for customers throughout the automotive industry.
System Features
- Full turn-key system with installation and training from highly experienced test personnel
- Repeatable and consistent impactors suited for child/adult head impact testing, lower legform impact testing, upper legform impact testing, and PDI testing
- Easy to use touchscreen controller with multiple programmable triggers for delaying the firing of the impactor, cameras, lighting, etc to within 1 ms
- Highly robust test frame with motorized adjustability in all three axes and a rigid, steel construction capable of withstanding high reaction forces
- Control system pressure automatically ramps to the desired input and holds within +/- 0.5 psi
- Calibration stations and rigs for each type of impactor certification (head, lower leg, and upper leg)
- Includes an external electronic velocity measurement system
- Vehicle targeting station available for boundary measurements and target establishment
- Data acquisition system with 16-bit ADC, Ethernet communication, and expandable ports for increased data collection
- Data processing script compatible with NI DIAdem for instant, easy, and automated data calculation and reporting

- This test system is compatible with all MGA impactors
Test Standards
- Most Pedestrian Protection standards such as Regulation (EC) No 78/2009, Regulation (EC) No 631/2009, GTR No. 9, Euro NCAP, EEVC WG17, etc
- This impactor and system may also be used for other custom dynamic applications such as impact tests on components, foam, polymers, plastics, etc
